The Perfect Day

When Carter and I first met, we were living 3,000 miles away from each other. We had to rely on email and phones to get to know one another in between visits. One of my favorite getting-to-know-you questions was "what would your perfect day be?" I had forgotten about that question from 6-7 years ago until I realized I had the most perfect day this weekend.

On Saturday, we decided to head back to Rocky Mountain National Park to check out a new hike. We started the day with a family snuggle with Tally, made delicious lattes courtesy of our espresso machine and headed northwest. We began at the Bear Lake Trailhead then hiked onto Nymph Lake, Dream Lake, and Emerald Lake. It was by far one of the most scenic hikes we have done yet. Roundtrip, it was a 3.6 mile hike, started at 9,500 feet and ended at 10,000. We even discovered why everyone except for us was carrying hiking poles - there was still a ton of snow! Pretty sure that was the first time I've thrown a snowball in July.

After our hike, we stopped by Oskar Blues in Lyons for a Priscilla Wheat and Mama's Little Yella Pills

Next, we swung by Upslope Brewery in Boulder to sample their latest and greatest and play washers

As I sipped on my dunkelweizen, I realized that today was my perfect day. A terrific day with my favorite person doing what we enjoy the most; soaking in breathtaking scenery on a great hike, sampling beers, trying new things. I felt filled with peace and happiness. I'm so grateful that our lives have slowed down a bit this summer so we can enjoy this free time together...life is good.
