Celebrate The Ones We Love

I am so behind in blogging, but had to be sure to share the story of Eva's annual birthday dinner in remembrance of her dad. Every year on his birthday, she throws a party and does what he loved best - cook a huge Puerto Rican feast for a house full of friends, and spend the evening enjoying food, wine, and laughter. I absolutely love this tradition, and it's such a treat to share in this tribute. Eva has been putting together a book of anecdotes about her dad and I adore hearing these touching stories. Eva and her mom outdid themselves and spent all day cooking tostones, chicken fricassee, and all sorts of other Puerto Rican goodness. Sometimes I get too caught up in the sadness of losing someone I love, and this dinner is always a reminder of how to properly remember a life lost - instead of being sad on the day they passed, celebrate the day they were born and all of the happy, funny, and touching moments you shared. Celebrating someone's birthday by carrying on the traditions of what they loved is a beautiful legacy.
